Dr. A. John Beke, Q.C. is counsel to the firm. His practice spanned 39 years,
including corporate and financial work, mergers and acquisitions, and
commercial litigation. He was senior general counsel to Saskatchewan Wheat Pool
and outside general counsel for Saskatchewan Economic Development Corporation.
He served as legal counsel and negotiator for Government of Saskatchewan in its
multi-million dollar acquisition of five potash mines. His trial and appellate
work includes two successful appeals before the Supreme Court of Canada and
major power and utilities rate commission hearings in the 1970s and 1980s. With
his diverse and lengthy experience, he contributes his vast wealth of knowledge
and insight to the firm.
Dr. Beke is the author of
Government Regulation of Broadcasting in Canada.
Dr. Beke was one of the founding Directors of the Canadian Lawyers Insurance
Association and was the Chairman of the Bar-Judicial Council of Saskatchewan
(1984-1986). He has served as a Bencher of the Law Society of Saskatchewan
(1987-1988); a Director of the Canadian Bar Insurance Association (1987-89);
President of the Canadian Bar Association, Saskatchewan Branch (1982-1983); and
a Trustee (1979-1991) and Chairman (1982-1984) of the Regina Board of
Education. He is currently a member of the Law Society of Saskatchewan and
Canadian Bar Association. Dr. Beke was awarded with the Distinguished Service
Award by the Canadian Bar Association (Saskatchewan Branch) in 2004.
